Mission Statement

"Real people coming together in community to transform their world with passion for God and compassion for people"

Five Things You'll Love About TLC

1) Love: We exist to be baptized with the love of God and pour out his love as a conduit to hurting and lost people+. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself as love. Our desire is to be filled with more and more of God's love for daily living, worship, and study. (We are all about his Love!)

2) We relate to God as Father "Daddy". We cry out by the Spirit of adoption "abba" Father. He is our Dad, therefore we are no longer slaves or servants, but rather His children. God wants an intimate relationship with us so that he can parent us as individuals who share the journey corporately.

3) Relationship and NOT Religion: We are all on this journey together, called to be His children and live with him out of our relationship with Him instead of a list of rules we must follow. You can follow rules without an authentic relationship with God. Rules are good and we should follow them out of love and respect for God in His timing. We get to know God and he deals with our heart right where we are at, no games or masks allowed.

4) Unity: One Body, diverse and eclectic as it may be, all Christians are our brothers and sisters (We are family! *playing softly in the background) . We downplay differences and concentrate on working together towards the common goal of preaching good news and serving our community together.

5) City Transformation! Our vision is to impact our city and go outside the four walls to be the arms and hands of Jesus. We will serve one another in love, regardless of doctrinal differences, or station in life. We will make a positive impact in our culture and serve the people who live here without judgment or criticism.  We will pray together, serve together, and love together to see God transform our city. When all is said and done our church will be known as a ministry that impacted our city and the lives of its people in positive tangible way for Jesus Christ.

Our History

A Brief History of the Lighthouse Church

The Lighthouse Church began in 1957 as a mission church of White Chapel Church of God in South Daytona, and was originally called The First Church of God. For several years they met in rented buildings or houses of members.

In 1960 Rev. Luther Moore became pastor and they moved into their first building at 126 S. Ridgewood Ave. that same year.

In 1963 a sanctuary holding 125 was completed. From 1967 to 1974 Jim and Gerri Moore served a growing congregation, and in 1972 added a large cafeteria, more classrooms and started a childcare center.

From 1974 until 1979 Sam Spencer served as pastor.
In 1979 Dave Walker became pastor.

In 1980 he started First Church of God Christian School (now known as Lighthouse Christian Academy) with six children in the first grade.

The school grew quickly and in 1982, a new office/classroom building was added and the sanctuary remodeled and expanded to accommodate the growing church and school.

Nevertheless, by 1987 space problems were acute, so the congregation bought the former "New Hope Church" at 4390 Grand Ave. and moved into its new sanctuary.

At that time it also changed its name to The Lighthouse and re-named its school Lighthouse Christian Academy.

The old sanctuary at 126 S. Ridgewood was made into a small chapel, and four new classrooms and a teacher's work room were added.

Nevertheless, by 1994 the school was again facing acute space problems, so the upper grades were moved to the Grand Avenue location and an additional childcare center was begun there.

In 2003 the former home of the DeLand Church of God (The Sanctuary) was purchased and the congregation moved to 1525 S. State Rd. 15-A in August 2003.

Again the school faced space shortages, so in August 2006, the Lighthouse Christian Academy High School was moved to 1525 S. State Rd. 15-A to utilize classrooms not being used during the week by the church.

The three weekend services of the Lighthouse Church have averaged nearly 500 in attendance the last two months.

Lighthouse Christian Academy now has over 500 students. The elementary school, a childcare center, and the church offices still occupy the original location at 126 S. Ridgewood Ave.

The middle school and Lighthouse North Daycare Center occupy the location at 4390 Grand Ave. in Glenwood.

The church conducts all the worship services in its 1525 S. State Rd. 15-A location, and LCA High School uses it during the week.

On Jan.1, 2008, Pastor Paul Bryan became Senior Pastor.

In early 2008, we purchased about five acres of land bordering our property on the north for future expansion of our church and school. We face the future with big dreams and high expectations

Our Statement of Faith

What we Believe

In essential beliefs - we have unity.

"There is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all.. Eph. 4:4-6

In non-essential beliefs - we have liberty.

"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters...Who are you to judge someone else's servant?  To his own master he stands or falls...So then each of us will give an account of himself to God...So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God."  Romans 14:1,4,12,22

In all our beliefs - we show charity.

"...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains...but have no love, I amount to nothing at all."  1 Cor.13:2 (Ph)

THE ESSENTIALS WE BELIEVE

1.       ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He has eternally existed in three personalities; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  These three are co-equal and are one God.Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2;2 Corinthians 13:14

2.      ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  He is co-equal with the Father.  Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to take true believers to heaven. Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14: 10-30;  Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

3.      ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God.  He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ.  He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved.  As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.  After salvation one may experience an infilling or baptism in the Holy Spirit for greater service. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16, 17: Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

4.       ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God's Word to us.  It is written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.  Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

5.      ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character.  People are the supreme object of God's creation.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude which separates people from God and causes many problems in life. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2

6.       ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it.  We can never make up for sin by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty.  When we turn from our sin-ruled life turn to Jesus in faith we are saved.  Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.  You remain saved by continuing faith in Jesus Christ and a demonstration of that faith. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5;

7.      ABOUT ETERNITY

People were created to exist forever.  We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is Hell.  To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.  Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Cor. 2:7-9
